Product: HP DeskJet 2755e All-in-One Printer
Hello, I own a HP Deskjet 2700 series [981EAB] and my printer won’t fill in the black parts of the barcodes for shipping labels. I’ve run both the maintenance clean ups; clear smear and clean printhead multiple times. I’ve also ordered new ink and should receive it in a couple of days. I’ve just wanted to inquire that even if I do receive the ink, if it’s just a printer failure in general or maybe the ink has gone bad? I’ve owned this printer since 2021 and my ink I have is from 2021 so maybe it’s that. But I’ve attached two images that shows that it can print fine, but it can’t fill in the ink on pages.

- Check Ink Levels: Ensure that the ink cartridges are not empty or low on ink. Even if you have ordered new ink, it's possible the current cartridges are depleted.
- Printer Settings: Verify that the print settings are correct for barcode printing. Sometimes, printers have specific settings for barcode or high-density printing that ensure the barcode lines are filled in properly.
- Alignment and Calibration: Some printers offer alignment or calibration options in their settings. Running these procedures can sometimes resolve printing issues, especially with precise details like barcodes.
- Update Printer Firmware: Ensure your printer's firmware is up to date. Sometimes, firmware updates include fixes for printing issues.
- Paper Type and Quality: Ensure you are using the correct type of paper recommended for your printer. Poor quality or incompatible paper can affect print quality.
- Clean Printhead Manually: If your printer allows for manual cleaning of the printhead, follow the manufacturer's instructions to clean it carefully.
Regarding your concern about the ink possibly going bad since it's from 2021, ink generally has a shelf life of about 1-2 years if stored properly (away from direct sunlight and in a cool, dry place). If the ink has been stored properly and hasn't expired, it should still be usable. However, if the ink is old or has been improperly stored, it might cause printing issues.
If you've tried all these steps and the issue persists after installing new ink cartridges, it's possible there could be a hardware issue with the printer itself.
It's also a good idea to double-check that you are using genuine HP ink cartridges, as third-party or refilled cartridges can sometimes cause compatibility or quality issues.
